Wedding ceremonies are performed by one of the magistrates or one of the 12th District Court Judges. The Small Claims Clerk is responsible for scheduling the weddings which are normally held in the Jackson Court Building.

Effective November 1, 2018, cell phones or recording devices are prohibited within the Court House.  Upon scheduling your ceremony, time permitting, a welcome packet will be mailed to the address supplied with instruction to capture your event. 

Preparation & Day Of Event

To schedule a wedding with the 12th District Court - please call: 517-788-4037 at least a week in advance of the intended date. There is a fee of $15 which is paid to 12th District Court Civil Division. In addition, the couple must present to the court a marriage license, which is obtained through the county clerk's office in each respective county. The Court will supply 2 witnesses if the couple has none. Witnesses must be a minimum of 18 years of age. The couple is welcome to bring as many family members and friends as they wish to witness the ceremony which takes approximately 5 minutes. A basic ceremony is used which has no religious affiliation.


Weddings are scheduled by the clerk as follows, unless other arrangements have been made with one of the judges or magistrates:

 Monday – 2:45 – 3:30
 Tuesday – 10:30 – 11:00 & 2:30 – 3:30
 Wednesday – 10:30 – 11:30 & 2:30 – 3:30
 Thursday – 10:30 – 11:30 & 2:30 Only
 Friday – 8:15 – 10:15 & 1:15 – 3:30
