Biography
As an aviation professional Juan Zapata has vast experience in federal and state airport regulations, airport operations and project funding. A former Navy pilot, Juan has spent most of his professional career working as an aviation specialist for MDOT, where he flew state-owned aircraft to meet the transportation needs of the department, inspected airports for state licensing and federal safety requirements, provided new airport manager training, and was the state compliance officer assisting state and local officials on aviation policy and federal grant assurance issues. Juan is a graduate of Western Michigan University; holds an MDOT Aeronautics Airport Manager License; and is married to Arlene and has two adult children.
