Infant Bereavement/ Grief Support

Grief Support

An Infant Mortality nurse wants to hear mom's story about her case.  Our nurse provides comfort and referrals for grief support.

Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) is a process of identifying and studying factors that contribute to fetal and infant deaths. Through examination of health records and interviews with families who have experienced the death of a fetus or an infant, FIMR identifies areas for improvement in service systems and community resources and provides recommendations for new policies to safeguard women, children and families.

Community-Based Approach

FIMR uses a community-based approach by bringing together local health providers, consumers, advocates and leaders. Jackson County FIMR is modeled after the national FIMR program, which is two-tiered, consisting of a Case Review Team and a Community Action Team.

The Case Review Team is composed of human services agencies, health care providers and other experts that review case information and interviews. They identify issues, look at trends, and make recommendations to the Community Action Team for community change.

Three Major Goals

The Jackson County Maternal Child Health Action Team has identified three major goals for improvement:

  1. Improve the sexual health of women in Jackson County.
  2. Improve the experience of care among women before, during and after pregnancy.
  3. Decrease infant mortality rates in Jackson County.
