Applying for a Marriage License

The courthouse is now open to the public, but you may still apply online. There is a check-in process to enter the building and masks are required to be worn.  


PLEASE NOTE:  If you live in Michigan, one of the applicants MUST be a Jackson County resident. If you live out of state, you must apply in the County where your marriage ceremony will take place.  You will be required to show government-issued photo identification at the time of pick up.  If you are unsure if you qualify, contact our office prior to completing the online application.

  • $20 for Michigan residents
  • $30 for out-of-state applicants
  • $20 to waive the three day waiting period (excluding active military personnel)
  • $15 to purchase a certified copy of your marriage certificate after you are married

Waiting Period

Michigan has a 3 day waiting period. The following is a list of the pick up schedule:

Marriage licenses must be used within 33 days from the date of application. Instructions on processing the license after the marriage ceremony will be provided at the time the license is picked up.
